Privacy Notice

Effective date: · Last updated:

Your privacy matters to us. This notice explains what personal information Fragrance Express collects, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have.

Overview

This Privacy Notice applies to fragranceexpress.com, which is operated by FE Distributors (“Fragrance Express,” “we,” “us”). It covers personal information we collect when you visit the site, create an account, place an order, contact us or sign up for emails.

“Personal information” means information that identifies, relates to or could reasonably be linked to you or your household. The rights described below are available to all U.S. customers, and the state notices add details that some state laws require.

Notice at Collection

This table summarizes the categories of personal information we collect, why we collect them, who receives them and how long we keep them. It also reflects the past 12 months. More detail follows in the sections below.

“Service providers” are the payment, fulfillment, shipping, tax, email, hosting, analytics and security companies listed in How We Share Information. “Sold or shared” means disclosed to Meta for targeted advertising (and, until October 2026, to ShareThis), which you can turn off in Your Privacy Choices. We collect this information from you, automatically from your browser or device, and from service providers that help us operate the store (for example, payment processors and shipping carriers).

Information We Collect

Information you give us

  • Account details: name, email address, username and password, phone number, date of birth (required to create an account), city and state, and, if you choose to add it, gender.
  • Order information: billing and shipping names, addresses, phone number and email, the products you buy and how you choose to pay.
  • Payment information: card and wallet details are entered directly into our payment processors’ secure forms. We receive a confirmation and limited details such as the payment type, but we do not store full card numbers.
  • Communications: messages you send us, return requests, product reviews and newsletter sign-ups.
  • Sign in with Google: if you choose this option, Google shares your name, email address and Google account ID with us.

Information collected automatically

  • Device and usage information: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, links clicked, referring page and the date and time of your visit.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: see Cookies and Similar Technologies.
  • Approximate location: when you view your cart, we may estimate your state and ZIP code from your IP address to pre-fill the shipping estimate. We do not collect precise geolocation.

Information from others

  • Payment processors, shipping carriers and our order-fulfillment systems, for example payment status, tracking numbers and delivery updates.
  • Google, when you sign in with Google.

How We Use Information

  • Process, ship and track orders, and handle returns and refunds.
  • Create and manage your account.
  • Provide customer support and respond to your requests.
  • Calculate taxes and shipping rates.
  • Send order and account emails, and marketing emails if you sign up.
  • Show relevant advertising and measure how our ads perform, unless you opt out.
  • Understand how visitors use the site and improve our products and services.
  • Detect and prevent fraud, spam and abuse, and keep the site secure.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our policies.

We do not use your personal information to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you, we do not collect, use or sell it to train large language models, and we do not set individualized prices based on it (other than discounts for eligible programs, such as employee purchase programs).

Cookies and Similar Technologies

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. Pixels and scripts are pieces of code that let a service record your visit. We use them for these purposes:

  • Essential: keeping you signed in, remembering your cart and language, and protecting forms. These include our customer cookie (about one year), a recently viewed products cookie (about ten days) and short-lived session and security cookies.
  • Security: Google reCAPTCHA helps protect sign-up and contact forms from spam and bots. It collects device and interaction information under Google’s privacy policy and terms.
  • Payments: Stripe and PayPal load scripts on cart and checkout pages to process payments and prevent fraud.
  • Analytics: we may use analytics services, such as Google Analytics, to understand how the site is used.
  • Advertising: the Meta Pixel from Meta Platforms, Inc. (Facebook and Instagram) collects information about your visit, such as pages and products viewed, your IP address and cookie identifiers. Until October 2026, Meta also received hashed (scrambled) versions of contact details entered in our forms, such as email, name, phone number, city and ZIP code; we have turned that feature off. Meta can use this information to show you our ads on its platforms and to measure how our ads perform.
  • Sharing buttons: the share buttons on product pages are plain links. They send nothing to Facebook, X or Pinterest unless you click one.
  • Fonts: web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address and browser information.

Third parties such as Meta and Google may collect information about your online activities over time and across different websites. You can turn off the advertising pixel in Your Privacy Choices, and you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site, such as the cart, from working.

How We Share Information

We disclose personal information to the following categories of recipients:

  • Service providers that work on our behalf: payment processors (Stripe and PayPal), our order-management and fulfillment systems, shipping carriers (such as FedEx and USPS), a sales-tax calculation provider, email delivery, website hosting and IT, security and anti-spam services, and customer support tools. They may use the information only to provide services to us, except that some, such as PayPal (when you pay with PayPal) and Google (reCAPTCHA and Sign in with Google), also process it under their own privacy policies.
  • Advertising partners: Meta Platforms, Inc., as described in Cookies and Sale, Sharing and Targeted Ads.
  • Affiliates: companies under common ownership that help us operate the store and fulfill orders.
  • Legal and safety: government authorities, courts or others when required by law, or to protect the rights, property or safety of our customers, the public or Fragrance Express.
  • Business transfers: a buyer or successor if we are involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
  • With your direction: anyone else you ask us to share information with.

Sale, Sharing and Targeted Advertising

We do not sell personal information for money. However, we allow Meta Platforms, Inc. to collect online identifiers (such as IP address and cookie IDs) and information about your activity on our site through the Meta Pixel, so that our ads can be shown to you on Facebook and Instagram and their performance can be measured. Some state laws call this a “sale,” “sharing” or “targeted advertising.” In the past 12 months, the categories involved were identifiers (online identifiers and, until October 2026, hashed contact details from our forms), commercial information (products viewed) and internet activity, and the recipients were a social media platform and advertising network (Meta) and, until October 2026, a social sharing and data analytics provider (ShareThis, Inc.), which we no longer use.

  • You can opt out at any time in Your Privacy Choices, without creating an account.
  • We do not sell or share sensitive personal information, and we do not use it to infer characteristics about you.
  • We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16, and the advertising pixel is turned off for signed-in customers whose date of birth shows they are under 18.

Your Privacy Choices

You have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information and of targeted advertising. Opting out turns off the Meta Pixel on this browser and, if you are signed in, on your account. Other parts of the site keep working as usual.

To opt out, turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser or send us a request through our Contact Us page.

  • Global Privacy Control (GPC): we treat a GPC signal from your browser as a valid request to opt out for that browser, and for your account when you are signed in. The status above shows whether we have detected it. GPC is available in some browsers and as a browser extension; see globalprivacycontrol.org.
  • Opt-out on this page: the button above saves your choice on this browser for one year and, if you are signed in, on your account so it applies on every device where you sign in. If you are not signed in and you clear your cookies or use another browser, please opt out again there or turn on GPC.
  • Opt-out by request: you can also send an opt-out request through our Contact Us page. We apply it to the account linked to the email address you give us, so it takes effect whenever you are signed in. To turn off the pixel on a browser where you are not signed in, use the button above or GPC.
  • Do Not Track: browsers’ “Do Not Track” setting has no common standard, so we do not respond to it. We do honor Global Privacy Control.
  • Opting out does not require an account, sign-in or identity verification, and we will not ask you to opt back in for at least 12 months.

Marketing Communications

If you subscribe to our newsletter or keep the newsletter box checked when you create an account, we may send you emails about products, sales and promotions. The box is checked by default; uncheck it if you do not want marketing emails. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in any marketing email or by updating your account. We will still send emails about your orders and account.

We do not currently send marketing text messages. If we offer them in the future, we will ask for your consent first.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, and in any case as a choice we extend to all U.S. customers, you can ask us to:

  • Know and access: confirm whether we process your personal information, and receive the categories and specific pieces we hold, the sources, the purposes and the categories of recipients.
  • Get a copy: receive your personal information in a portable, commonly used format.
  • Correct: fix inaccurate information. You can also update most account details yourself under My account.
  • Delete: delete personal information we hold about you, subject to legal exceptions (for example, records we must keep for tax purposes).
  • Opt out: of the sale or sharing of personal information, targeted advertising and profiling with significant effects. See Your Privacy Choices.
  • List of recipients: receive a list of the specific third parties, or categories of third parties, that received your personal information, where state law provides this right.
  • Withdraw consent: where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time by sending a request through our Contact Us page or, for marketing emails, by unsubscribing.

How to make a request

Send us a message through our Contact Us page and include “Privacy request,” the right you want to use and the email address you use with us. You do not need an account. If you are signed in, you can manage your details under My account.

Verification

To protect your information, we verify requests to know, access, correct or delete by matching details you give us (such as your email address and recent order information) with our records. If you have an account, we may ask you to sign in. We use the information you provide only to verify your request.

Authorized agents

You can use an authorized agent to make a request for you. For requests to know, access, correct or delete, we may ask the agent for your signed permission and ask you to confirm your identity with us. For opt-out requests, we only ask for your signed permission. A parent or guardian can make requests for a child.

Our response

We confirm receipt of requests within 10 business days and respond within 45 days. If we need more time, we will tell you why and may take up to 45 more days. Requests are free; we may limit repeated requests as the law allows.

Appeals

If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision or by sending a message through our Contact Us page with “Privacy appeal” in the message. We will respond in writing within 45 days. If we deny your appeal, you can contact your state Attorney General, and we will tell you how.

No discrimination

We will not deny you goods or services, charge you different prices or give you a different level of service because you used your privacy rights. We also will not retaliate against employees, job applicants, students or independent contractors for using theirs.

Additional State Notices

California

California residents have the rights described in this notice under the California Consumer Privacy Act. The Notice at Collection lists the categories of personal information we collected, sold or shared, and disclosed for business purposes in the past 12 months, with their sources, purposes and retention. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes other than those the law permits without a right to limit. California residents can also ask us about disclosures of personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes (California Civil Code Section 1798.83) through our Contact Us page.

Nevada

Nevada residents can ask us not to sell covered information by sending a request through our Contact Us page. We respond within 60 days.

Other states

Residents of states with consumer privacy laws, including Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Virginia, have the rights described in Your Privacy Rights, including the right to appeal.

Sensitive Information

The only sensitive personal information we collect is your account sign-in (username or email with your password), which we use only to sign you in and keep your account secure. We do not collect precise geolocation, biometric information, government ID numbers or consumer health data, and we do not sell sensitive personal information.

Children and Teens

Our site is meant for adults and is not directed to children. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 18 or use it for targeted advertising: the advertising pixel is turned off for signed-in customers whose date of birth shows they are under 18.

Data Retention

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes in this notice. To decide how long, we consider how long you keep your account open, how long we need records to process orders, returns and refunds, our tax, accounting and other legal obligations, and the need to resolve disputes and prevent fraud. Cookie lifetimes are listed under Cookies and Similar Technologies.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections. Payment card details are handled by our payment processors and are not stored on our servers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a security breach affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.

Changes to This Notice

We may update this notice from time to time and will review it at least once a year. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or with a notice on our site before the changes take effect, and we will ask for your consent before using personal information we already collected in a materially different way.
